OBTAINING IRISH CITIZENSHIP THROUGH A GRANDPARENT (Foreign Birth Registration)

If you have one grandparent born on the island of Ireland, you are eligible to apply for Irish citizenship (through a Foreign Birth Registry (FBR) application). You can learn more by visiting DFA.ie.

FEES

• Adult - $700 • Child (under 18) - $500

Fees include: professional review of application and supporting documents, notarizing/certifying supporting documents, printed EU-sized photos, mailing fees, foreign exchange transaction fees, and application fees (paid to the Irish government).

This fee does NOT include an Irish passport. Citizenship applications and passport applications are handled separately.

A $25 deposit (applied to the total fee due) is required when booking an appointment.

Citizenship is required in order to apply for a passport of any country. Passports are not automatically distributed to citizens of any county. Those wishing to obtain a passport to any country must apply for a passport in a process separate from citizenship.

AFTER you have obtained your naturalization documents/Irish citizenship, you are eligible to apply for an Irish passport. The FBR process does not automatically include a passport.

WHY SHOULD I GET MY CITIZENSHIP?
